With Thanksgiving just behind us we still have a lot to be thankful for here at the Breckenridge ski rental shop. With 94” of snow reported on the mountain in Breckenridge–most during last week–skiing is here, the lifts are running and it’s time to hit the slopes!
New terrain on Peak 9 opened just before the holiday with deep natural snow to please the powder hounds. I took a pair of Kastle BMX 108s out for a test ride and found them to be particularly fun in the deep stuff. The early rise tip and 108mm waist made the ski perform like a champ and the carving side-cut made returning to the lift for another run a breeze. If you want to test ride the Kastles as well, they are on the demo rack and available as a ski rental option. I’d recommend them to anyone coming to town to hit the powder.
The T-Bar opened on the Saturday following Thanksgiving and a group of thankful holiday weekend skiers queued up for the first runs of the season in Horseshoe Bowl. I was among the lucky ones that were there early. We all experienced the thrill of getting in some fabulous laps in the bowl as well as a chance to hit the snow a little farther north in North Bowl. Ptarmigan was exceptionally nice with excellent coverage at the top and boot to knee deep powder lower down.
Independence chair also opened up for the extra-long weekend with lots of superb snow for everyone to enjoy. The word is that more terrain will be opening as soon as the lifts can be readied and ropes and pads put up for safety.
It goes without saying that we’re thankful for the snow, and we hope to see you out on the slopes as well!
